This video has to be seen to be believed.

The incident took place 13 years ago on the Ladies European Tour in Morocco and the circuit is back in the North African country this week for its Qualifying School.

Car crashes are common at Q School, of course, but let’s hope no golfer or marshal experiences anything like this particular cart crash, real or metaphorical.

It all starts harmlessly enough, though.

A volunteer was in a cart when the tee shot of the German player Anja Monke came to rest nearby.

The volunteer did the right thing by not moving and waiting for a referee to arrive.

The referee asks Monke to mark her ball and then her caddie says: “Turn left driver.”

What happens next is pure carnage.

The driver puts his foot to the floor and then swings the steering wheel sharply to the left.

The initial problem is that his speed and the tightness of the turn somewhat shocks him.

In fact the caddie, referee and Monke all look up at this point somewhat alarmed at his pace.

The second worry is that he didn’t really see a spectator who has to jump out of the way.

The caddie rather brilliantly does a double take at this near miss.

But that’s not even half of it.

The three of them are well aware that the drama is not yet over.

The driver’s pace is still chaotically fast.

If you watch enough times – and it’s well worth doing so – the driver actually turns the wheel to the right but the buggy clatters straight on and at some pace, too.

Everyone watching is now fully aware that a crash is looming.

And so it comes to pass as the buggy bangs straight into a tree, the volunteer ricochetting backwards and forwards as it does so.

A shocked Monke lifts her hand to her mouth, as does a man on the far left.

The caddie rests his hands on the referee in fear and astonishment, then approaches the buggy to check on the driver.

The good news is that he was okay, just a bit shaken up.

It later transpired that he’d got his foot caught in the accelerator and couldn’t free it.

The odd failure of the wheel to steer him to the right was never explained.

Remember folks: drive carefully, from the tee and in your buggy.
