Streelman secures maiden victory

Kevin Streelman staved off the challenge of Boo Weekly to take the Tampa Bay Championship title, his first on the PGA Tour.
Weekly fired an incredible eight-under-par 63 to set an early victory target of eight-under, with Streelman beginning the day on six-under.
Birdies at the first and third saw Streelman edge toward victory, but he had to wait until the 13th to take the outright lead. A further birdie at 17 made the victory all but safe and the 34-year-old made no mistake on the 18th.
“Always had a dream of getting here,” Streelman said of his victory. “And so to get this is the culmination of a lot of hard work and a lot of time spent late into the evening, and getting up early in the morning. And it’s really a dream come true.
“Hopefully, we can do it again,” he added. “This is a lot of fun.”
Weekly finished two shots back with his late charge just not enough to take him over the line. Cameron Tringle was a further shot back on seven-under.
Justin Leonard was in contention heading into the final straight, but bogeys at 16 and 18 saw the former Open champion forced to settle for a share of fourth with Luke Donald and Greg Chalmers.
Sergio Garcia and Jim Furyk were part of a seven-man group tied for seventh on five-under.
