Stenson, Phil, Rory set for Houston

US Tour

The Shell Houston Open will have a high quality field with Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy all confirmed for the event.

Tournament Director Steve Timms has revealed on the tournament’s official website that five-time major winner Mickelson will headline the event in Humble, Texas, from April 3-6.

With the first major of the year, the Masters, taking place at Augusta a week later, most of the world’s best players are using it as part of their warm-up for the event.

The 43-year-old Mickelson, ranked fifth in the world, will only return to action this week at the Texas Open following a two-week break.

Stenson, though, will be the highest-ranked player in the field and the world number three from Sweden will be joined by the seventh-ranked McIlroy.

World number 11 Matt Kuchar, 2012 US Open champion Webb Simpson and Ian Poulter of England will also take part as will Jimmy Walker, who is currently the FedExCup points leader following three PGA Tour wins in 2014.
