Reed romps clear of rivals

A new PGA Tour record helped Patrick Reed to open a commanding seven-shot lead at the Humana Challenge on Saturday.
Reed started the day two strokes clear of the field after rounds of 63 on the PGA West resort’s Palmer course and La Quinta, and he didn’t disappoint on the third day with another nine-under-par 63 on the Nicklaus Private course.
Eight birdies, an eagle and one bogey helped him to 27-under-par 189 for the tournament – a new record for 54 holes on the PGA Tour – and within sight of his second career win.
“It kind of seemed like deja vu all over again,” the 23-year-old told the official PGA Tour website. “When I played today, I felt just as confident as I did the last two days and the putter is still working.”
“I’m just going to treat tomorrow as if it’s a Monday qualifier, 18-hole shootout, everybody’s tied at even par and hopefully I can go out and do the same thing I’ve done in the past three days.”
Charley Hoffman and Brendon Todd are his closest, well they are not that close, challengers as they carded a 66 and 68 respectively to move to 20 under while James Driscoll is another shot off teh pace.
Veteran Americans Americans Bill Haas (67) and Justin Leonard (65) are tied for sixth at 18 under while Australian Matt Jones is the only non-American in the top 10 at 17 under.
