Former US Open winner Fleck dies

Former US Open champion Jack Fleck has died at the age of 92 following a brief illness.

The American’s finest golfing moment came at the 1955 US Open when he produced two birdies in the final four holes at the Olympic Club in San Francisco to tie Ben Hogan and send the tournament into a play-off.

He returned the following day and carded a 69 to beat favourite Hogan by three shots and claim his one and only major title.

Fleck also won two other US PGA Tour titles and also won the Senior PGA Championship in 1979.

He was back at the Olympic Club two years ago to help hand over the US Open trophy to Webb Simpson.
