REFLO Lapter: The Harry Kane-backed hoodie that could boost your swing

Matt Cooper

It seems absurd that angst about a hoodie is still a thing, but golf clubs continue to find this apparently straightforward piece of apparel an awkward fit.

Just the other day, a friend was told off for wearing one. But thankfully, most clubs are now fine with a jumper with a hood (because that is, after all, all it is).

Golf365 has been trying out the Reflo Lapter Hoodie recently, and the review is to come (see below). But first, let’s learn more about Reflo, a brand that is shaking up sports in general and golf in particular.

What is Reflo?

It’s a performance wear brand on a mission to change the sportswear game, for good. To become the most sustainable sportswear brand in the world, in fact.

What do they claim to do?

In big, bold words, they said: “We’re changing the sportswear game.”

They specialise in sustainable, premium and technical sportswear for athletes at all levels in an array of sports, from golf and padel, to training and running.

Their sportswear brand is, they say, “fit for the future”.

“We’re always looking for ways to be more sustainable, more efficient and more effective,” they continue. “And we won’t stop. The world is moving, and so are we.”

Big claims?

Oh yes. “Every step we take is part of a larger journey, driven by a community of people. We are not just delivering sportswear; we are cultivating a movement. A movement towards a more sustainable, inclusive and conscious world.

“Our sportswear seamlessly moves with the body, providing unparalleled comfort, support and freedom during every activity. Our commitment to optimal performance is reflected in the thoughtful design and cutting-edge sustainable materials.”

Crikey. Any more big words?

Absolutely. “We don’t bother with ripples,” says Reflo. “We make waves.

“And we do this by staying true to who we are.”

They have four tenets. First up – style

“When clothing works hard and looks great, you’ll reach for it again and again. That’s why we always create pieces at the forefront of performance and design. We never dictate how or when to wear them. They’re made to be flexible in every way.”

They also believe in less

“We do less, but do it better. We don’t release new lines every week. We don’t produce endless samples. There’s nothing fast about our fashion. Everything in our collection is precisely designed, rigorously tested, and crafted to stand the test of time.”

They innovate for good

“We push the boundaries of textile and fabric innovation with the future in mind. We’re not afraid to be honest about the problems – so we can come up with the solutions. Our focus is on how we can use intelligent design to make sure nothing goes to waste.”

And they have created Active Regeneration™

“Most fashion brands take a toll on the planet. We don’t think it’s enough just to minimise our environmental impact. Active Regeneration™ is built into our foundation. Every aspect of our business strives to make a positive imprint with concrete action.”

What’s this about Harry Kane?

He’s not only a brand ambassador, but he likes Reflo so much that he became an investor.

Okay, so what about how it looks, how it feels and how it works?

Ah yes, cutting to the chase – the review. We tried the Lapter Hoodie in black, and let’s keep this simple, we loved it. The look is slick and elegant. The fit is snug yet relaxed.

There is no overt branding – just a neat, simple, classy REFLO in grey on the front and a small MOVE WITH THE PEOPLE also in grey on the rear.

It washes well, and it dries super quickly. First up, I wore it out and about and had numerous comments on how good it looked.

I then wandered down to the range and liked that it felt perfect as I strolled there along the river, but also as sports apparel when I was hitting. The hat trick came when I actually went to the course, and it felt right there, too.

But if I was happy with the look, feel and wash, there was one important final factor to consider: how did it work when I hit the ball?

And here was an unexpected clincher: it was superb for a reason I had not considered. Because the hoodie has a soft inner and a smooth outer. And the latter minimised friction in the swing.

It felt like I was hitting with a hidden extra element in my favour, and I liked it. I really liked it. I felt freedom to swing and also felt a little more sporty than normal when playing golf.

I’ve always liked a golf jumper, but you know what? I’m a hoodie convert.

New chapter? No…. New Lapter.
