Willett riding the wave

Danny Willet is enjoying a good run of form as he enters the WGC-Bridgestone at Firestone Country Club this weekend.
The Englishman is coming off a one stroke win at the Omega European Masters in the Swiss Alps on a weekend that included a sizzling eight under 62.
Just a week prior to that at St Andrews, he was in contention to win the Open Championship after two rounds, but slumped over the final two days. Nonetheless, Willett finished tied for sixth, his best finish in a major to date.
“My form has been really good this year,” the 27-year-old told europeantour.com.
“The injury that really hindered me a couple of years back has settled down, and it shows that when I can train and practise I can achieve good things. For me it is nice to see those things paying off.
“I played well in The Open and then went to Switzerland in good spirits. I took the family to have a nice week as my mum and dad have never been. I’ve always enjoyed it up there. It was my seventh straight time and it is an event The European Tour needs as it is a very good event. To come out on top makes it even more special.”
Willett’s consistency has seen him rise to 24th in the world rankings, up from 50th where he started the 2015 season. The three-time European Tour winner is ready to take another step forward and is targeting good results at the World Golf Championship tournaments especially.
“These WGC events are the next step up for me,” added Willett.
“It’s great to come across to these events in America and test yourself and see how good you are over here. These are the events you need to start performing in. You look at guys who have succeeded in both Europe and America – Rory [McIlroy], Lee [Westwood], Justin [Rose] – they’ve done well on both sides of the pond.”
