Willett eye’s Race to Dubai success

English golfer Danny Willett has confirmed that he will be playing in the final three events of the European Tour season as he tries to get the top spot in the Race to Dubai rankings.
Willet, who sits in second place on the rankings behind European number one Rory McIlroy, slipped further behind the Ulsterman with his 11th place finish in last weekend’s Turkish Open, while McIlroy gained 128,171 points with his sixth-place finish.
McIlroy now sits on 3,268,695 points on top of the rankings followed by Willett on 2,869,310 points with three tournaments remaining.
Both men will be playing at the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, which starts on Thursday.
In an interview with The Star, Willett confirmed that he will try and win the prize.
"I think it's one of them where if you're in the position we're in, I'm probably finishing in the top five," he said.
"Win one and that gets up that next level to how much everyone else kind of makes.
"My goal was to try and win one and if not, try to make a hell of a lot of money along the way and see if we can jump Rory.
"Obviously a lot can happen.
"It's a strange one because not everyone's playing every event and you're not quite sure who is going to play.
"For us, it was just a case of us knowing we were going to play four of the Finals Series, we know we're behind, try and knuckle down and have a good four weeks."
After the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, Willett will defend his Nedbank Golf Challenge title in South Africa.
