Toptracer offers sensational opportunity to play The Old Course at St Andrews – in reverse!

Toptracer, the world’s leading range technology and also the official range technology of St Andrews, The Home of Golf, has announced an exclusive competition that will take place at its partner ranges around the globe featuring the Old Course Reversed.
The competition takes place from April 2nd to 30th.
Back in the 19th century, as standardized golf course routings emerged from a sort of chaos, the original Old Course had a routing that was typically played in a clockwise direction.
It started from the current first tee and finished at the current 17th green.
It was only in the 1860s when Old Tom Morris, who served as the Keeper of the Greens, separated the 17th green from the 1st green that the current counterclockwise routing we know today was created.
For almost a century thereafter, the Old Course was frequently played in both directions on alternating days and weeks until the counterclockwise layout became the preferred choice.
The old days have not been entirely forgotten.
The St Andrews Links often brings back the reversed routing for three days in April to those lucky enough to hold one of the most sought-after tee times in golf.
But this year something special is on offer.
Toptracer has recreated the course virtually and it will be accessible to 1,250 Toptracer-powered range sites worldwide during April, making this “lost” golf course available for more players to experience.
To make it even better, players can compete in the virtual golf game mode on The Old Course Reversed.
The player with the lowest gross score will win a tee time for two on the actual Old Course Reversed in 2026.
To enter, golfers can visit any Toptracer Range to register and play The Old Course Reversed between Wednesday, April 2 through Wednesday, April 30.
“It’s an incredible privilege to exclusively offer golfers worldwide access to one of the most unique experiences at golf’s most iconic destination,” says Scott Blevins, General Manager at Toptracer.
“We believe the appeal of this experience will attract new players and drive repeat visits to our customers’ facilities.”
In 2022, Toptracer joined forces with St Andrews Links for a long-term partnership that included the installation of Toptracer Range Technology at The St Andrews Links Golf Academy, the range facility at The Home of Golf.
As part of the partnership, Toptracer became the only platform where golfers can play the Old Course virtually at the driving range – and in 2024 there were more than 700,000 rounds played at The Home of Golf on Toptracer Range sites around the world.
“We’re excited to have golfers worldwide experience the uniqueness of Old Course Reversed in a virtual setting. We’re pleased to be able to work with our partners at Toptracer on this special activation.” says James Ralley at St Andrews Links.
“All who dream of visiting the Home of Golf will now have access to this historic routing from the comfort of their local driving range bays.”
