Top field at Meijer Classic

The tournament is set to take place from the 7th-10th August at Blythefield Country Club as 144 players will compete for the pot of $1.5 million.
Meijer LPGA Classic features nine of the top 10 golfers in the latest Rolex Rankings.
Players making the trip to Bythfield include all of the top 5: No. 1 Stacy Lewis, 17-year-old No. 2 Lydia Ko, No. 3 Inbee Park, No. 4 Suzann Pettersen and No. 5 Lexi Thompson.
Tournament director Lesley Baker believes the competition will have a positive impact on promoting women’s golf.
‘’I mean, this is an event for everyone — and if you love golf, it is obviously great,” she told local media.
“The reason why we are here is because of Meijer. Meijer wanted to use an LPGA tour event and bring 144 of the best female golfers to West Michigan to promote their Simply Give programme and to promote how great this community is here.”
World number 6 Michelle Wie, who won the 2014 US Women’s Open at Pinehurst, believes that the tournament will provide the perfect preparation for Wegmans LPGA championship next week – live on Sky Sports.
“It’s always exciting when you have a new tournament on the schedule,” Wie said.
“It’s a really good practice week for next week (the LPGA Championship) and this week you’ve got everyone. Everyone is in the field…a lot of the top players.”
