South Korea knock US out

South Korea eliminated the top-seeded Americans from the LPGA International Crown thanks to sudden-death playoff birdies from Park In-Bee and Ryu So-Yeon.

In Saturday’s final four-ball matchers, Spain and Sweden swept to 4-0 wins, eliminating Taiwan and Australia in the process.

Japan split with South Korea and Thailand split with the US 2-2 to secure their berths in what proved to be the decisive session of the day.

Following those results, the second-seeded Koreans and the American hosts had to fight out for the final sport, with spot with Park and Ryu playing Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson on the 16th.

The second player’s score at the par five was then used the tie-breaker.

Park’s approach shot came to a halt seven feet from the cup, while Thompson left herself a 12-footer for birdie.

Kerr then rolled a putt to four feet, before Ryu chipped to within two feet from the hole.
