Scott to miss World Match Play

Masters champion Adam Scott will miss the World Match Play Championship after confirming he will be taking an extended break following the Sony Open.

The World No 2 has not missed the WGC Match Play event since he first became eligible in 2002, but has now opted to take a six-week break following successive PGA tour events in Hawaii over the next two weeks.

One reason he may be opting to sit out is his poor record at the tournament since it moved to Arizona in 2007. The Australian was beaten in the opening round the last three years, and he has not advanced beyond the second round since 2005 when it was at La Costa Resort north of San Diego.

Scott is playing the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua and then Sony Open at Honolulu the week after. He’ll return for the Honda Classic in Florida at the end of February.
