Rose and Stenson impress

Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson won both of their fourball matches on the opening day Ryder Cup at Gleneagles on Friday.
European captain Paul McGinley picked the pair to play in both the morning and afternoon sessions on a stunning but chilly day in Gleneagles.
The duo began with a 5&4 win over Masters winner Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson, then followed it up to defeat Hunter Mahan and Zach Johnson 2&1 in the afternoon to help Europe surge to a 5-3 lead after day one.
“It’s been really really special,” Rose told Sky Sports.
“The captain put a lot of faith in me and Henrik today and going out first this morning and keeping us together. For us to firstly play fourballs together and then gel – I thought we were really good today.
“It was a great day, really enjoyed it. This week you do what you’re told and you put in, whinging aside, and you get on with it. There is no whinging.
“To have the opportunity to play Ryder Cup matches is such a thrill. If that’s what called of us, we’ll be up for it.”
