Rory McIlroy trolls US golfs fans as he reminisces about Ryder Cup Miracle of Medinah

Rory McIlroy trolled the US gold fans by referencing that famous 2012 Ryder Cup day at Medinah as he prepared to tee-off at this week’s BMW Championship.
Europe stormed back from a 10-6 deficit on the final day, with McIlroy playing a key role – but only after a major mishap that nearly saw him miss the day entirely.
Time-zone issues caused McIlroy to oversleep that morning, and he’d have likely missed his tee time had he not received a police escort to the course.
And, as he spoke to media ahead of his first competitive outing at Medinah since that fateful day, he couldn’t help but wind up the locals a little.
“You know, they did offer (a police escort) to me. So whether I take them up on it or not, I’m not sure,” McIlroy joked.
“Hopefully I won’t need it. We’re staying a little closer to the course this time.”
Medinah is special for another reason for McIlroy, as it was where he met his future wife, Erica Stoll, who was working the event.
“Erica that week was always the one that was checking us in and out. She was there at transportation, so she was always in the car park over there (by the clubhouse),” McIlroy said.
“But yeah, it’s still cool to look around and think about that week, and obviously everything that’s happened since then. It’s pretty cool.”
