Positive signs for McIlroy

World number one Rory McIlroy has posted a video of a training session in which he appears to show no visible discomfort as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

McIlroy ruptured ankle ligaments while playing football with some friends prior to last month’s Open, and has not featured since, with his participation at next week’s PGA Championship in doubt.

The Ulsterman’s agent, Sean O’Flaherty, has refused to confirm or deny reports that McIlroy will play a practice round at Whistling Straits this weekend, but he told Golf Channel that McIlory is “progressing well” and “taking it day by day”.

However, the 26-year-old has now provided the surest sign that he is well on his way to recovery by posting a video on his Instagram account in which he performs exercises on his troubled left leg without any apparent problems.

A further update on McIlroy’s condition is expected later on Thursday.
