Park takes the lead in Michigan

World number three Inbee Park followed up her opening 66 with another five under par to take the halfway lead at the LPGA Tour’s Meijer Classic.
The South Korean produced a flawless round with two birdies on the front nine and three on the back to lead by one shot over Suzann Pettersen with Mirim Lee a further shot back at eight under and Amy Young at seven under.
“I had one bogey yesterday, but today I had no mistakes out there,” Park said. “So yeah, I putted really well out there. When you’re putting really well, it’s real easy to score.”
Park has already tasted success this year with victory at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in June – her 10th on the LPGA Tour.
“I hit it really good this year, but I just haven’t putted as well,” she said. “Putting like this feels like I’m back to last year, so hopefully I can hole some more putts the next two days.”
Norwegian Pettersen surged up the leaderboard at Blythefield Country Club with a seven-under 64 that included eight birdies and a lone bogey at the par-four 16th.
“It’s not like the easiest course if you miss the fairways, but just really tried to played to my strength, hit the fairways, hit greens and made a couple of putts,” she said.
Lee also impressed with a 64 while Young had five birdies and one bogey for a four-under-par 67.
Opening-round leader Sandra Gal struggled as she followed up her six-under 65 with a one-over 72 to slip into a tie for fifth place at five under along with Lydia Ko (68), Haru Nomura (67), Line Vedel (69) and Katherine Kirk (70).
England’s Laura Davies is tied 14th at three under after a 68.
