More senior success for Jimenez

Miguel Angel Jimenez made it two wins from three starts at the Champions Tour’s Mitsubishi Electric Championship on Sunday.

The entertaining Spaniard carded a six-under 66 on the final day in Hawaii to finish one clear of Mark O’Meara.

Jimenez, an outside favourite in the 2015 US Masters betting, was particularly strong coming home, picking up birdies at 10, 11, 13-15 and 17 – to edge out O’Meara, who had come close to forcing the issue with a final-round 64.

Afterwards, the 51-year-old said he needed every bit of his strength off the tee to secure the win.

It was uphill against the grain and into the wind,” he said. “I knew I had to hit it hard.”

O’Meara was pleased with his nine-birdie, one-bogey 64, but was disappointed to miss out on the win.

“People remember the winner, not second place,” he said. “I’m disappointed, but Miguel played well when he had to.”
