Mixed golf introduced to Olympics – but who would be the dream teams at Los Angeles 2028?

When golf was re-introduced to the Olympics in 2016 there was widespread disappointment that there was no mixed team event.
Now that mistake has been rectified with news that the International Olympic Committee Executive Board has approved the idea ahead of the Los Angeles Games of 2028.
The golf will take place at Riviera Country Club and the mixed event will take place after the men’s event and before the women’s.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to see a Mixed-Team Event added to the programme for Los Angeles 2028,” said International Golf Federation Executive Director Antony Scanlon.
“Golf was incredibly successful at Paris 2024, and as we continue building on the momentum from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, we’re excited to bring even more attention to our sport through this additional format.
“The athletes were very enthusiastic about their desire to play with their compatriots, and we look forward to watching them compete together in Los Angeles.”
The format will be a 36-hole competition with one round of foursomes and one round of fourballs with one team permitted per country.
Who would make the teams? Well, it will all be down to a rankings system but let’s have some fun.
If the competition took place next month these 16 teams would be pretty exciting combinations!

Canada – Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson – neat and tidy from the Canucks.
