Michelle Wie to take indefinite break to heal injury

Michelle Wie has been left with no choice but to take more time off after her troublesome right hand injury flared up again.

The 29-year-old was forced to cut her season short last year after undergoing an operation to address ongoing pain in her right hand.

Her comeback at the start of 2019 also ended in disappointment after she withdrew during the first round of her title defense at the HSBC Women’s World Championship due to the injury flaring up again.

Wie returned at the year’s first major tournament, the ANA Inspiration, earlier this month but missed the cut there and at last week’s LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii.

After meeting with doctors on Monday, she announced another indefinite break from golf to focus on getting back to full fitness.

“Had an encouraging visit with my doctor, however we both think it’s in my best interest to take some time away to allow my body to heal properly and get stronger,” Wie posted on Instagram.

“Health is my top priority right now and hopefully I can get back to being pain free real soon. Thank you everyone for staying patient with me. I appreciate y’all.”
