McIlroy to miss next two events

Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from next week’s BMW Masters and the WGC HSBC Champions event in Shanghai the week thereafter.

The world number one released a statement on Monday saying that he needs some time away from golf in order to focus on the ongoing legal battle with his former management company, Horizon Sports Management.

McIlroy terminated his contract with the Dublin-based company last year and formed his own management company. After a long-drawn-out legal dispute, the matter will finally go to court.

“I’m going to need time away from tournament golf to prepare for the trial over my legal dispute with Horizon Sports Management,” McIlroy is quoted by various British publications as saying in a statement.

“The court-directed mediation process failed over the weekend to resolve the issue.”
