McIlroy in PGA Championship field

World number one Rory McIlroy has been named in the field for next week’s PGA Championship, but there is no confirmation that he will take up his place.

The 26-year-old is currently working his way back to fitness after rupturing ankle ligaments while playing football with some friends on the eve of the Open last month.

McIlroy has not featured since, but in recent days has posted a number of videos on social media which appear to show him training with no visible pain.

On Thursday, the Ulsterman took to the driving range to get back in the swing of things, while also showing the extent of the damage that was done to his ankle.

There have been unconfirmed reports that McIlroy will play a practice round at Whistling Straights, the venue for next week’s major, this weekend, and there appears to be a growing feeling that McIlory will defend his title next week.

However, the fact that McIlroy has been named in the field for the year’s final major does not mean that his appearance has been confirmed, he has until his tee time to decide wherther or not he will take his place.
