McIlroy: I am fully fit

World number one Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he has returned to full fitness ahead of his title defence at this week’s PGA Championship.
There were doubts over McIlroy’s participation after he suffered ankle ligament damage last month while playing football with some friends, an injury that force him out of last month’s Open at St Andrews.
With the injury now having healed, McIlroy braved the rain on Monday and played nine practice holes at Whistling Straits, building on practice rounds he enjoyed over the weekend.
“To play golf, it’s 100 percent,” McIlroy told reporters. “To go back on a soccer pitch, it wouldn’t be quite ready. But to do what I need to do this week, it’s 100 percent.
“It felt fine. It’s good. I’ve come a long way in five weeks.”
McIlroy has been paired with Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth, and Open winner Zach Johnson for the first two rounds of the PGA Championship, which begins on Thursday.
