McIlroy and the Golden Bear

Rory McIlroy asked the legendary Jack Nicklaus for some tips on how to dominate Augusta.

The Northern Irishman is currently in Georgia getting in some practice rounds around the iconic Augusta course and he asked the six time Masters winner Jack Nicklaus for some advice over lunch.

“There’s obviously a lot of pin positions there that you don’t attack and pin positions where you need to leave the ball below the pin,” said the 25-year-old on

“He was saying if you hit the ball in the middle of the green at Augusta you’re going to be okay. Even if there isn’t a pin that you want to take on, you try and put your ball in the middle of the green, you’re going to have a relatively straightforward putt.”

All eyes will be on the world number one needs a Masters win to complete a career Grand Slam.

Fans will also be on the lookout for a recalibrated Tiger Woods, should he tee off in April. Despite the 14-time Major champion’s absence from the game, McIlroy believes he could be a force to be reckoned with at Augusta.

“Back in 2010, 2011 he finished fourth coming off whatever it was, Thanksgiving to then, I guess,” added the ten time European Tour winner.

“He knows his way around the Augusta.  If he feels ready to play and he does play then he knows what to do when there.  Yes, someone that’s won the Masters four times…I think he’s pretty comfortable in that place.”
