McGinley named golfer of September

Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley has been named the Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Month for September.
The 47-year-old Irishman received extensive praise for the way he led the European Team to an emphatic 16½ – 11½ victory over the American team at Gleneagles.
McGinley famously holed the winning putt at the 2002 event has an unbeaten record at the biennial event after he was on the winning side in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012.
“I feel like there are 12 winners of the Golfer of the Month Award rather than me, but I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of those 12 players who represented Europe so magnificently in The Ryder Cup at Gleneagles,” McGinley told the European Tour’s official website.
“I’m very honoured and humbled to have been their Ryder Cup captain.”
McGinley will receive a Jeroboam of Moët and Chandon champagne and an engraved dish to signify winning the award for September.
