Brittany Lincicome moved three strokes clear of the field as the LPGA Championship in Pittsford, New York reached the halfway stage.

Lincicome carded a four-under-par 68 in Friday’ second round to go nine-under par for the tournament.

Her closest rivals with two rounds remaining are Lexi Thompson and defending champion Inbee Park.

Having started the day trailing Thompson and Meena Lee by a shot, Lincicome started with a bogey but was back to level par for her round after the fifth.

The American would go on to make birdies at the ninth and 12th holes and produced eagle at the par-five 14th and went on to finish the round without any other blemishes on her card.

The 28-year-old is in search of her second major title, but would have taken note of the impressive round South Korea’s world number three Inbee produced.

Inbee shot a 66 on Friday to claim a share of second place at six-under for the competition.

The four-time major winner opened with birdies in three of her first four holes and picked up another two shots before she also eagled the 14th, only to drop her only shot of the day at her penultimate hole.
