Kiradech confident of PGA success

Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat is confident of putting in a strong showing at the PGA Championship, which begins on Thursday.

Kiradech recently won his third European Tour title when he triumphed at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Matchplay in Aberdeen, Scotland earlier this month.

The 26-year-old is now hoping to draw some inspiration from his victory over Robert Karlsson and do his country proud at the final major of the year.

“The win in Scotland boosts my confidence,” Kiradech, who finished in a tie for 25th in his PGA Championship debut in 2013, told the Bangkok Post.

“I feel more comfortable with my game. I hope to do well in big tournaments to move up my world ranking.”

Kiradech’s compatriot Thongchai Jaidee will also be expected to put up a good performance at Whistling Straits even though he failed to make the cut on the last two occasions that the PGA Championship was played at the course, in 2004 and 2010.

But, with experience on his side, Jaidee will be aiming to beat his career-best PGA Championship finish of joint 36th when he makes his 10th appearance at the event on Thursday.
