IK Kim earned a two shot lead following the first round of the LPGA’s Lotte Championship in Hawaii on Wednesday.

The South Korean fired an impressive seven under 65 to take two stroke lead over a trio of fellow countrywoman consisting of NY Choi, SY Kim and Inbee Park.

Kim birdies the opening hole and the fifth before going on a three birdie ruin from the sixth to ninth on the Ko Olina course.

A solitary bogey on the par four eleventh would set Kim back, but she rallied to roll in three more birdies on the back nine to secure the first round lead.

The American duo Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr are locked on three under, while defending champion Michelle Wie is five shots off the pace after carding a two under 70.

“Obviously I’ve been a little bit sick this year so I think starting from the California swing, I just started feeling a little healthier and building on top of it,” Wie told khon2.com

“But today was definitely fun to be playing back at home, to be playing in a familiar atmosphere. It was definitely a lot of fun today.”
