Jones leads PGA Championship

Australia’s Matt Jones will take a two shot lead into the third round of the PGA Championship after shooting two birdies in the final six holes of round two.

Jones had played through 12 holes when the second round was suspended due to a rain storm on Friday, and left the course on nine-under and tied for the lead with compatriot Jason Day.

While Jones was able to continue where he left off and take his score to 11-under, Day was not as fortunate and shot two pars, a birdie and a bogey over his last four holes to remain on nine under.

Jones has never lead in a major before and his best result at his last four attempts was tied for 30th place at this year’s Open Championship.

“I’ve been in the lead on a TOUR event, but a major’s a different story. But I’m going to have fun with it, and I’m pretty relaxed on the golf course,” he told the PGA Tour website.

Jones claimed his first ever PGA Tour title when he won the Shell Houston Open last year.

England’s Justin Rose, buoyed by his performance at last week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational, carded a 67 in the second round move to third on the leaderboard on eight-under.
