Johnson confirms May return

Dustin Johnson has confirmed that he will return to action within a month of his aborted challenge at the Masters.

The world number one was among the favourites for last weekend’s first major of the season after winning three of his four tournaments in 2017.

But Johnson injured his back in a fall at his rental home and then pulled out of the tournament at Augusta National on the first tee.

Johnson’s injury is clearly not a long-term one though after the American’s participation in the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship, on May 4, was confirmed.

“We certainly are excited that Dustin will be joining us in Wilmington in a few weeks,” said championship executive director Kym Hougham.

“More importantly, we are glad that he is okay and will be returning to the PGA Tour.

“He leads a group of players, currently in the field, who are among golf’s most dynamic and talented players in the world today.”
