Jacquelin ties European Tour record

Raphael Jacquelin went on a birdie blitz at the Turkish Airlines Open on Saturday as he equalled the European Tour record for most carded in a round.
The Frenchman started the third round seven shots off the pace after scores of 67 and 72 in his opening two rounds, but he made 12 birdies for a new course record of 10-under-par 62 at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal.
Jacquelin wasted no time to get going as he picked up shots on his first four holes before he was pegged back slightly with double bogey at the par-three fifth hole.
However, he was back at it with four birdies in a row from the eighth to the 11th hole. After taking a “break” from holes 12th to 14th, he once again picked up four consecutive shots to finish his round with a 10 under.
That pushed the 39-year-old to a 15-under total of 201 for the tournament and also helped him to equal the European Tour record for most birdies in a round.
British pair Darren Clarke (1999) and Russell Claydon (1995), American Fred Couples (1991), South African Ernie Els (1994) and Dane Jeppe Huldahl (2010) are the other players to have made 12 birdies in a round.
