Huge prize money for The Open

The Open Championship overall prize fund has received a boost to the tune of £900 000.
This increases the prize money pot to an astounding £6.3 million. Royal and Ancient chief executive Peter Dawson revealed the news on Wednesday.
“The Open is one of the world’s pre-eminent sporting events,” he said on Sky Sports.
“The Championship represents the pinnacle for the world’s greatest golfers and this increase is appropriate for an event with the Open’s global appeal.”
The increase means the winner at St Andrews this year – perhaps Jordan Spieth, according to BetBright’s golf betting odds – will take home £1 150 000. This is the first time the winner will receive over a million pounds.
The amount, however, is in line with Sunday’s US Open winner Jordan Spieth’s collection. The Texan picked up £1 142 000 after Dustin Johnson missed a four foot putt for a playoff.
