Furyk holds slender lead

Jim Furyk leads by one from Louis Oosthuizen heading into the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational.

The American, who held a two-shot lead after the second round, shot an even par 70 to just keep the chasing field at bay on eleven-under-par.

Furyk was never able to quite get his round going despite a birdie on the second, shooting par on all of the remaining holes aside from the twelfth which he bogeyed.

Having bogeyed the ninth, Oosthuizen had three birdies on the back nine to thank for his promising positioning just one shot back

Furyk, who is looking for his first win since 2010, and Oosthuizen have a fairly significant cushion to the chasing pack, with Keegan Bradley the next best on seven-under-par.

Bradley, who defends PGA Tour Championship later this month, carded four birdies and a bogey in his round of 67.

Rory McIlroy and Steve Stricker are a further shot back.

World number one Luke Donald bogeyed the last to finish one-over for the day and seven shots behind Furyk. Tiger Woods broke par for the first time all week with a 68 is eleven strokes off the pace.

Starting times have been moved up for the final round because of a forecast of thunderstorms throughout the day and Furyk believes this will make his task even harder after what was a tough Saturday.

“We had a little bit more wind going on, the greens firmed up a little bit, and I just felt like it was a lot harder to get iron shots close to the pin,” he said.

Despite a disappointing weekend, Woods tried to find some positives in his performance.

“Hitting fairways and greens, you’re shooting high rounds of 2-under par and 3-under par, that’s a good sign,” he said. “Those are your worst scores you can possibly shoot that day. It’s not good when you’re shooting those scores and you get absolutely everything out of it.”
