Europe ready to pick Ryder captain

An announcement on who will be Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain could come as soon as next week.
According to the European Tour, a five-man selection panel will be holding a meeting on February 18 to decide the next captain.
Currently, it is thought to be a two-horse race between Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, though the bookies are backing Clarke as the clear frontrunner.
Three past European captains form part of the selection panel which will decide on the next captain: Paul McGinley, who led Europe to victory last September, and successful 2010 and 2012 captains Colin Montgomerie and Jose Maria Olazabal.
They are joined by European Tour chief executive George O’Grady and former Ryder Cup player David Howell.
Europe have won eight of the last 10 Ryder Cup matches against the United States and they will look to secure an 11th at Hazeltine in Minnesota in 2016.
