Eight-way tie at the Senior Open

Bernhard Langer is part of an eight-man group leading the Senior Open Championship after the opening round in Sunningdale, England.

Langer shot a five-under-par 65 to tie with Michael Allen, Bart Bryant, Marco Dawson, Jeff Sluman, Lee Janzen, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Lianwei Zhang.

The German fired six birdies on the day, but didn’t feel like he was at his best.

“I didn’t feel totally comfortable with my swing, but my putting was very good and I didn’t make any major mistakes,” he told pga.com.

Byrant, who also managed six birdies, credited the course as he felt that there were opportunities to be capitalized on.

“The course was probably in the most scorable condition it will be all week,” he said.

“We had no wind through the first 13 or 14 holes, and the greens were soft.”

Janzen, who is a two-time US Open winner, felt that he could of done better on the greens, despite being in the eight-man group that’s leading.

“I missed more than half from four to 10 feet,” said the American.
