Simon Dyson has pulled out of this week’s European Tour flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth’s West Course, because of his hip injury.

The English Ryder Cup hopeful, Sky Sports reported on Tuesday, has failed to shake off the injury in time for the strong-contested event.

The reigning Irish and Dutch Open champion withdrew from the Players Championship in Florida two weeks ago after the first round with the same injury.

Dyson, who finished third at Wentworth last year, is replaced in the field by Dutch star Maarten Lafeber.
