Clark included in Open field

South African Tim Clark is one of six men included in the field for this year’s Open Championship, starting on July 16.

The former Players champion was selected along with Francesco Molinari, David Lingmerth, Matt Jones, Harris English and Daniel Berger.

The six made the cut on Monday by virtue of being the highest ranked non-exempt players in the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of the week 26-29 June.

Associated Press reports that the invitations were extended “when it became clear the Open would not fill all the spots from remaining qualifiers for the 156-man field at St Andrews.”

The six join the 10 who made the field via the Qualifying Series event at the Travelers Championship. Brian Harman, Carl Pettersson and Luke Donald are among those.

Charley Hoffman, Robert Streb, Steven Bowditch and Kevin Kisner qualified thanks to their respective FedEx Cup point totals, while Alex Noren and Kiradech Aphibarnrat are in via The European Tour’s Race to Dubai.
