Baird, Kirk share McGladrey lead

Briny Baird birdied his last three holes to move into a share of the lead with Chris Kirk at the McGladrey Classic.
Baird has yet to win on the PGA Tour in 365 starts, but gave himself a solid chance of breaking his duck with a three-under-par 67 in the third round at the Sea Island course in Georgia on Saturday.
He and Kirk, who had a 68 on the day, lead on 10 under and hold a narrow one-shot lead over Kevin Stadler, Brian Gay and Australian John Senden.
“It’s a great way to finish and it puts me in a better position going into tomorrow than if I’d have just finished with pars,” Baird said of his closing birdie blitz. “That would have made the work tomorrow considerably harder.”
Second-placed Stadler had the round of the day with a fine 65 which helped him move one shot behind the leaders.
Just behind the chasing trio are Brendon Todd and Scott Brown, while Matt Kuchar, at six under, could still steal the show if he manages to go really low on Sunday.
