Cristie Kerr blows Kia Classic lead

Cristie Kerr undid all of her good work from a day earlier at the Kia Classic in California on Saturday as she carded a three-over par 75 to drop a stroke behind the leaders.

Kerr had raced into a huge five-shot lead on Friday after a sensational eight-under 64 at Aviara Golf Club, but she struggled on moving day as she allowed playing partner Lizette Salas, Eun-Hee Ji and In-Kyung Kim to edge past her into the lead at 11 under par.

Kerr was tied with Caroline Hedwall, Wei-Ling Hsu and Cindy LaCrosse one shot back at 10 under.

Another four players including Anna Nordqvist (66) were one shot further behind.

The 40-year-old Kerr had a reasonable start, reaching the turn at even par, but bogeys on the 12th and 18th, plus a double bogey on the par-4 15th saw her lead gradually evaporate.

Ji fired a blemish free 67 to pull level with Kim (69) and Salas (69), although Salas may live to regret a couple of missed birdie putts as she missed from 18 inches on the 16th and again from just 2.5 feet on the next.
