Zach Johnson

USA
It might be that the US captain sees something of himself in Zach Johnson. Both are small men, short off the tee, but blessed with great determination and competitiveness. Johnson is less of a firebrand than his captain but he does share a certain briskness about the course that gives you a big clue about his grinding qualities. The 34-year-old first made his mark when winning on the PGA Tour in 2004 but it was his Masters victory in 2007 that saw him truly introduced to the wider public. Since then he has added another five PGA titles. He has made only one previous Ryder Cup appearance but it has given him a taste of the match when played away from the US. In Ireland in 2006 he may have only scored one and a half points from a possible four, but that was a decent effort in a poor team performance. He’ll be tough to beat and a good team man.
