England’s Oliver Wilson spearheaded Lake Nona to a resounding victory at the Tavistock Cup in Florida on Tuesday.
Wilson, the only member of his team without a Tour victory, top-scored in the second and final round of singles matches with a blistering 65 that contributed significantly to Lake Nona’s winning total of 43-under.
Swede Henrik Stenson was Lake Nona’s next best scorer with a 4-under 68 with Northern Ireland’s US Open champion Graeme McDowell, Englishman Ross Fisher and a second Swede, Peter Hanson, each shooting 70s and South African Retief Goosen a 71.
Tiger Woods continued where he left off in Sunday’s final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship and Monday’s first round of this event with more solid, sub-par golf, shooting a 3-under 69 in helping pre-tournament favourites Albany of the Bahamas, one of the new teams in this informal, non-PGA Tour event that has been expanded from two to four.
Ian Poulter also shone for Albany with a 4-under 68, but with Justin Rose (73), Ernie Els (74) and Trevor Immelman (78) all shooting over par, Tiger and his men finished all of 16 shots behind Lake Nona.
With Robert Allenby their star – the Australian shot a 66 to finish as the second-highest individual scorer behind Wilson – team Isleworth finished third, a further two shots back at 25-under with Queenswood of Surrey, England, the second of the new teams in the contest, a distant 4th at 18-under.
