‘Tiny’ Tim Clark has been one of the most reliable performers on the PGA Tour for last nine years but, unfortunately for him, he also had a reliable habit of making the top five without ever coming first. Now that he has finally won an event – and a big one at that, this year’s Players’ Championship – he might be ready to claim one or two more. He certainly knows his way around Pebble Beach because he has four top-12 finishes in the AT&T National Pro-am. He is also no mug in this event. In 2004, at Shinnecock Hills, he was sixth going into the final round before struggling (as almost everyone but the winner Retief Goosen did). Twelve months later he was third at Pinehurst. With a third place in the PGA Championship and a second in the Masters, he has proved he has the ability to go close in majors – the question is if he can do what he has done at PGA Tour level and go one step further.
