Tiger falls to 12th in World Rankings

Tiger Woods has dropped out of the Top 10 on the World Ranking list for the first time in 14 years.
Tiger Woods has dropped out of the Top 10 on the World Ranking list for the first time since the week before the 1997 Masters.
The long-time World No 1 – the 35-year-old 14-time major winner spent a total of 623 weeks at the head of the rankings before seeing the title pass to Lee Westwood in October last year – has fallen to 12th while sitting out of tournamewnt play with an ankle injury.
And that’s official.
In the rankings published on Sunday night, Woods, easily the most successful golfer of the 21st Century and the sporting world’s greatest earner of all time, fell four spots.
This fact on It’s own is no real surprise. It was widely predicted earlier this week.
But perhaps a more stunning fact is that Woods has lost more world ranking points in 2011 than all but three players in the world have earned during the same period.
This because many of his eight wins in 2009 were among the expiring finishes on the moving two-year calculation.
Luke Donald remains in the second spot in the Rankings, but is now just five-hundreths of a point behind No. 1 Lee Westwood.
The full top-6 remained the same, but Charl Schwartzel has moved up five places from 12th to 7th in the rankings on the strength of reaching the semi-finals at Finca Cortisen at the weened.
Steve Stricker dropped into Woods’ former spot at eighth.
Ian Poulter, who beat Donald in the Volvo World Match Play Championship and thus thwarted Donald’s bid to oust Westwood at No 1, moved up to 14th from 22nd.
And in the US David Toms moved up another 18 places this week after his win at Colonial, going from 46th to 28th. Two weeks ago, Toms was 75th
