Stricker strikes in Hawaii

Steve Stricker shot the round of the day to take a share of the lead at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

Steve Stricker shot the round of the day to take his place in a three-strong leadership group at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
Stricker signed for an eight-under round of 65 on day three to go to 18 under for the tournament, where he was joined by fellow Americans Jonathan Byrd and Robert Garrigus.
Stricker hit three birdies and a bogey five on hole six but really found feet on the back nine.
Between holes 11 and 15 he hit five consecutive birdies to shoot up the leaderboard, before picking up another stroke on the 18th.
Garrigus was the overnight leader after scoring a superb 63 yesterday but he slipped back a little today and took six extra strokes across the course.
Things started modestly with a double-bogey six at the first and he lost another shot at the par-four second.
His fortune soon turned with birdies at the next two holes and there were no more hiccups in his round, with three more birdies and an eagle at the 18th.
Byrd continued his consistent showings in recent days with a round of 67, comprising seven birdies and a solitary bogey.
Sweden’s Carl Petterson, in contention from the start of this event, led the chasing pack three shots further back but his round of 71 was his worst of the weekend.
Matt Kuchar was next in the standings, with an impressive round of 66 taking him to 14 under overall.
Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowell was six off the pace for a two-way share of sixth with Bill Haas and European team-mate Ian Poulter shot 70 to close as one of four players on 11 under.
