Stallings surges as Tiger keeps falling

In a week when Tiger Woods fell to 28th in the World Rankings, Scott Stallings has rocketed into the top 120.
In a week in which Tiger Woods has fallen seven more places to 28th in the World Rankings, Scott Stalling has rocketed to 119th from the 562nd spot he occupied at start of the year.
Woods will clearly be hoping to stop his free-fall in the Rankings when he makes his comeback this week from more than two months on the sidelines with a knee and Achilles heel injury to play in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
He has won an incredible seven times there and must be hoping for those good memories to kick-start his come-back.
Stallings, of course, is the American rookie who won the US PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic at the Old White TPC in West Virginia on Sunday, the win hoisting him 105 places from the 224th rung he had occupied no more than a week ago.
Another big mover this week was Simon Dyson.
The Englishman won the Irish Open at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club from a stellar field that included all four Irish major winners, and on the strength of that victory, he was not only able to secure his place in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, he also moved up 19 places to No 48, edging into that all important top 50 bubble out of which so much comes to it’s occupiers in the way of qualifications for the majors, the WGC tournaments and other elite events paying top dollar and dishing out large numbers of ranking points.
In Japan Yutu Ikeda held off the challenge of Tetsuji Hiratsuka to win the Sun Chlorella Classic on the Japan Golf Tour by a single shot. The win takes Ikeda to World Number 60 – an improvement of 18 positions.
