Snedeker grabs FedEx glory

Brandt Snedeker won the Tour Championship by three strokes and with it claimed the £6million FedEx Cup jackpot.
Snedeker together with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods appeared the only men in contention for the big payday heading in Sunday’s final round and it was Snedeker – who had a share of the lead overnight – that was the man who stood firm when it mattered.
While McIlroy faltered with a massively disappointing 74 to finish on one-under, a shot behind Woods who could only muster a 72, Snedeker sailed with a 68.
After 11 consecutive rounds below 70 and having won three of his last four tournaments, a visably tired McIlroy was unable to continue his hot streak into the final day.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Snedeker though after he double-bogeyed the sixth after finding the water.
The 31-year-old responded by holing a 40-foot putt on the 8th and another big putt of 18 feet on the 13th as he found his groove once more.
Ryan Moore briefly reeled Snedeker in with birdies on 14 and 15 but was unable to continue that momentum into the final holes as he began dropping shots.
Conversely, Snedeker upped the ante with a chip-in on the 17th to all but ensure the victory as he headed to the final tee with a four-shot lead.
Even a bogey after an errant tee shot to the left on the last couldn’t wipe the smile off Snedeker’s face and he secured the biggest win of his career.
