The Korean is a candident for player of the year, and while a win would certainly help her campaign, the 21-year-old is focused on the weekend ahead.
“I just focus on the game this week and not thinking about that at the moment,” she said. “I’m thinking for this week’s tournament and for the win.
Overnight leader Song-Hee Kim suffered through a round of 72, carding five bogeys, to lose her grip on the lead and slip back to fourth.
Michelle Wie matched Shin at six under par, moving up to a tie for second place alongside Paula Creamer. Media darling Wie is looking forward to playing with Shin on Saturday.
“I love playing with her,” said Wie. “She’s a really fun player to play with and I always fell like I can learn from her playing with her, and I think it’s going to be a really fun day tomorrow.”
“The people have been very nice to me here,” she continued. “And just, you know, seeing the people on the golf course, seeing the cheering and stuff, it just makes many he feel good.”
Creamer had begun the day in second place, but lost ground with a round of 69, hurt by a bogey on the par four 14th.
“There’s still a lot of golf left,” she said. “So I’m going to go out the same way I have the past two days and try and make a bunch of birdies and eliminate all of the mistakes that can possibly pop up on this golf course and just keep giving myself chances. That’s all you can ask for.”
