Jim Renner grabbed a one-shot lead after the first round of the rain-delayed Travelers Championship was completed on Friday.
Renner shot a seven-under-par 63 to grab a one-shot lead over American Ryan Moore and Argentinian Andres Romero at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
After only three groups were able to finish their first rounds on an opening day that suffered heavy rain delays, players resumed early Friday morning, with Jim Renner getting off to the quickest start, shooting a six-under-par 29 on his opening nine to rocket up the leaderboard.
The 27-year-old American only picked up one more shot on his back nine, but it was enough to take sole possession of first place on the leaderboard.
As many as 14 players lie only one shot behind Moore and Romero and two behind Renner, including the likes of Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson, American Zach Johnson and Nick Watney, and Englishman Brian Davis.
Second-round play got underway on Friday afternoon, though most will only finish their second rounds on Saturday.
