Ian Poulter did not even have to dream to see his name – and his alone – at the top of Turnberry’s Open leaderboard today.
As he came to the 18th green in practice the scoreboard operators duly obliged and Poulter, last year’s runner-up, made sure he captured the image for his 250,000 Twitter fans.
“I’ve been taking pictures all the way round,” said the 33-year-old, “but that one’s a bit special – and it would be lovely to see it up there on Sunday night.”
Poulter described the course as “magnificent” and when asked for a possible winning score replied: “Level-ish. It does not need to blow much either to be a real tough test.
“On two holes on the back nine (the 12th and 14th) there are no bale-out areas left or right.”
