Ian Poulter purchased a Seve Ballesteros gold putter at a charity auction this week for £55,000.

More than £618,000 in all was accumulated for the Ballesteros Foundation and Cancer Research UK at the “Ole Seve” pro-am day at Wentworth on Monday, the event where Poulter bid for and won the prize.

The Englishman revealed that the putter will be given pride of place in his trophy cabinet.

“It’s something I will really treasure,” he said.

The Englishman is an avid collector of memorabilia, and he also owns a ball given to him by Ballesteros at the 1991 British Masters when he was just 15.

Poulter, the recent winner of the Volvo World Match Play title in Spain, posted pictures of both the ball and putter on his Twitter feed.

At the same charity event, England’s Paul Casey also acquired a Rolex watch once owned and worn by Ballesteros, for which he paid £65,000.
