Peter Hanson

Sweden
Every Ryder Cup year someone makes a determined effort to make the team and this year it was the 32-year-old from Sweden. After struggling with his early forays onto the European Tour, since his breakthrough year of 2004, when he finished 42nd in the Order of Merit, he has finished no worse than 57th and has made the top 20 in each of the last four years. This season he has captured two titles: the Mallorca Open and the penultimate event in the qualification period, the Czech Open. On both of those occasions he held a strong lead before allowing himself to be caught. If that suggests a weakness, he did at least manage to defeat his opponents in tense play-offs – and his first European Tour win, the Spanish Open, also came via a play-off so he can handle pressure. He is a three-time member of the Seve Trophy European team but although he played well in 2007, his overall record is not in profit: four wins, three halves and seven losses.
